Initially founded as an actual military fort in 1836, Fort White is rich in history and relies upon the Ichetucknee River as its largest tourist attraction. Three Rivers Estates, one of the largest residential developments in the town, is named as such because Fort White has access to three Florida rivers: Ichetucknee River, Santa Fe River, and Suwannee River.
Fort White’s multiple waterways offer visitors and residents access to pristine waters and the opportunity to become fully immersed in the majesty of Florida’s natural environment. Avid anglers enjoy the calm of the river waters and plentiful fishing opportunities while tubing enthusiasts enjoy a peaceful drift along these serene rivers.
In addition to fishing and tubing, many nature lovers enjoy canoeing and kayaking along the rivers. The Ichetucknee Springs State Park offers visitors the ability to take a glimpse clear to the bottom of the river, as the waters are crystal clear. Many water-dwelling creatures are easily visible because of such clear waters making the Ichetucknee River a pristine location for freshwater fish enthusiasts. Many forms of Florida wildlife can be seen while visiting the Ichetucknee Springs State Park including white-tailed deer, turkeys, ducks, and great blue herons.

Fort White, Florida also participates in the national movement to link nature trails entitled Rails to Trails. The Rails to Trails Bike Path is a great way to get in a little exercise while soaking up sun and taking in Florida’s visually stunning landscape. Whether cycling, walking, or horseback riding along these trails, visitors are able to experience the serenity of nature and the various creatures that live within these environments; Rails to Trails is a great draw to the area. The trail runs from Fort White to O’Leno State Park as well as going north through Branford to Little Springs State Park.
